Artist Profile

Beverly Iles

In 2016, Perth based visual artist Beverley Iles graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Curtin University and won the City of South Perth Emerging Artist Award.  

Since graduation, she has completed a residency, had a solo exhibition, been a finalist in three national awards, including the Churchie Emerging Artist award, been part of a collaborative project with a Taiwanese curator and featured in a documentary about working cross culturally, been selected for a sculpture scholarship and residency in Switzerland,  and has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions in Melbourne, Brisbane and Western Australia. 

Iles’s initial tertiary training was in the biological sciences and repeated references to the natural world and literal use of natural materials are present in her artwork.

This sculpture continues the artist’s
interest in exploring how natural and human systems interact to talk about our relationship to place. Unmoored uses the materials of, and visually replicates, a jetty or wharf pylon. A ceramic assemblage on top of a timber post references corals.
