Claire Bailey
Claire Bailey has practised in West Australia as an artist for 30 years. Originally trained as a photographer, it wasn’t long before she discovered that she enjoyed making the props for the photographs far more than the end result. This led her back to art school to study sculpture. Since then, she has been involved in theatre, TV, community arts, public art and teaching.

Claire Bailey – A silent call
One of the great joys for Bailey is the freedom of repurposing objects. The primary intent becomes irrelevant; it becomes a new treasure. Starting as a musical instrument past its use by date, it is now a mother duck leading young, or a mythical armada journeying to conquer new lands. These works demonstrate the beauty of giving new life to things discarded; with the simple act of relocation and a shift of position, the pieces take on new meanings.
