Gordon Mitchell
Gordon Mitchell’s multidisciplinary practice is grounded in the principles of creativity, responsiveness, and innovation. Using a diverse range of materials, he adapts his work to the unique challenges of each project. His sculptures enrich the environment, inviting audience engagement and enjoyment. Mitchell has exhibited at significant sculpture events such as Sculpture at Bathers since its inception in 2013, as well as Sculpture by the Sea at Cottesloe and Bondi. His work has been commissioned by private collectors, as well as corporate and public institutions.

Gordon Mitchell – Abrolhos
Growing up in Northampton with the fascinating stories of adventure and shipwrecks of the Abrolhos Islands, Mitchell was inspired by the concept of survival and shelter. This assemblage uses childhood memories to respond empathetically to concepts of home. An imagined captain’s trunk from the Batavia 1629 becomes a habitat for a creative crustacean. The rustic embossed trunk is inspired by the gorget (piece of armour protecting the throat) from the Batavia on display at the WA Shipwrecks Museum.
