Artist Profile

Janine McAullay Bott

Janine McAullay Bott’s weaves are a culturally significant, ever-evolving, way of visualising the Noongar peoples, their culture and unique sense of humour. McAullay Bott’s ambition is to convey the beauty of her mother’s people, her ancestors of the southwest of Western Australia. Looking into the weave you can see the spirits of the native animals and the Noongars they represent. McAullay Bott believes she inherited a gift from the old people, which could be taken away at any moment. The weaves must be created in the right way, always dignified, like the beautiful spirits they represent.
