Jennie Nayton
Jennie Nayton’s art practice combines elements of photography, drawing and sculpture together in a multidisciplinary practice. Since 2010 she has worked predominately in the area of public art and has completed 19 public art projects across Western Australia. Nayton’s art practice is an on-going investigation into the cognitive processes of perception, experience, memory and understanding. Heavily influenced by vision problems she experienced as a child she became fascinated with a reality that can only be known through the subjective experience of the exterior environment through an individual’s senses.

Jennie Nayton – Light & shade – Study 2
Light & shade – study 2 is an intricate exploration of optical art which uses contrasting tones and positive cut-outs combined with faceted angles to examine the geometric and optical relationships between cubes and
hexagons. As the viewer moves around the artwork the changing perspective of the facets and contrasting negative and positive space confounds the senses. Foreground and background appear to alternate, creating an illusion of movement of the forms and shapes.
