Richard Aitken
Richard’s unique ability to see artistic opportunities and create pieces from recyclable material is the cornerstone of his sculptural practice. Since first exhibiting in 2013, Richard has won many awards using a range of materials and techniques. Recent highlights include the Major Prize at the Castaways Sculpture Awards, and solo exhibitions at ECU, Mt Lawley, and Gallows Gallery, Mosman Park. His natural thought process follows an organic sense, with strong connections to the earth, nature, and re-purposing.

Richard Aitken – Carve
Created from an unwanted West Australian wheatbelt relic, this work, by its very nature, causes curiosity and intrigue. So many vehicles are left to rust, laying idle in the back paddock, at the farm tip. These beautiful machines, thought to be past their use-by date, have found new life. Carve connects the classic lines of the 1960s with the creative mind of an artist who dared to think, “I can make this work.”
