Artist Profile
Tim Burns

Tim Burns is a legendary figure in the history of Australian underground art. Rising to notoriety in the early 1970’s with a series of (literally) explosive art actions, before decamping to New York, where he remained on and off until the mid-1990’s. Burns calls himself “a context artist”, with his forty years of work forming a critical reflection on our hypermediated, industrialised western society. His interventions, often created live in the public sphere, can result in dramatic shifts in the participants’ focus.
