Tom de Munk-Kerkmeer
Tom de Munk-Kerkmeer was born here in Subiaco but was raised in the Netherlands.
He started to make beach sculptures on the North-sea coast at the age of 4 and since then art and migration have had great impact on his life. In 1997 he returned to WA and currently dreams up his own myth in West-Northam on the “Edge of the Man-Made desert……”

Tom de Munk-Kerkmeer – Bicycle works, ride like the wind
The bicycle plays a pivotal role in Tom’s practice. He uses it for everyday transport, exercise, to transport materials, to transport artworks /sculptures. It is also a highly effective medium to communicate the artist’s ideas about alternative possibilities/sustainability, personal myth and meta-physics. Here, where the Swan River flows into the Indian Ocean, the work marks the place where he arrived by ship in his mother’s womb 60 years ago.
