Valerie Schönjahn
Valerie is an emerging artist, using sculpture and installation to reflect on relationship and connections, between different elements and their context. Seeking out themes of identity, fragility and memory, Valerie strives to discover the essence of a thing or individual, that which contribute to its lasting presence. Working across scales and predominantly using hand formed ceramics as well as found, grown, and collected material, the work is diverse in texture and form, and a response to the place of which it was made.

As part of the artist’s ongoing fascination with texture, colour and materials, Everything ocean is a personal journey into understanding some of the more obscure opportunity and impacts of our oceans. Everything has traversed them, treasure and trash alike, no material is sacred in the ocean. No myth is too far-fetched or too small. In politics, science and culture, ocean is always a determining factor. Everything ocean is a playful experimentation with some of these ideas, embracing kitsch and nostalgia alike.
