Artist Statement
Takahashi uses small birds as visual symbols of the four seasons in Japan. The first bird symbolises Japanese spring, invariably associated with picnics under blooming cherry trees. The second bird introduces summer when morning glories open their beautiful petals to the sun. The third expresses autumn with its colourful display of turning leaves. The fourth alludes to the harsh, snowy season. Japanese culture centres around the four seasons, constantly reminding people of the importance of living in harmony with nature.
