Artist Statement
This work is about joy and ephemerality. It is about all the celebrations, large and small, that we mark by sharing cakes or biscuits. Giles enjoys the paradox of something as hard and permanent as fired porcelain to nevertheless evoke edible softness. The title is from Plato – who thought all art is a poor imitation of reality which in turn is a poor imitation of the ideal.
