Artist Statement
In Soft relics: echoes, Quiambao explores the relationship between objects, memory, and commodification. These sculptures use found objects to reflect how our histories are tied to the everyday. Once functional, these objects become preserved relics, frozen in time in protective plastic coverings. The white surface and shrink wrap evoke fragility and impermanence, suggesting that what we choose to keep is vulnerable to time and the forces of commodification.
