Artist Statement
This sculpture represents a tubular column of marine reef. Although it looks colourful and happy, it is created using plastics found washed up on beaches, floating in the ocean, caught on reefs and entangled in marine life, mainly from the fishing industry debris, so has an underlying message. The polypropylene, and other plastics used in this sculpture, take hundreds of years to break down into microplastics which are ingested by our marine life and in the latest research… humans.
